Mary Ellen started singing in front of audiences at the age of 12 and got into her first band right after High School graduation. There was never any doubt that singing would be her passion for her whole life. “I can't imagine my life without singing”, says Mary Ellen. “Its such a big part of who I am and what I am about.”
Mary Ellen is considered to be one of the most popular and diverse female vocalists in the Bay Area. Known for her powerful and emotional delivery and for her pure, versatile sound, Mary Ellen is a vocal force to be reckoned with. Her outgoing, engaging stage presence makes everyone in the audience feel like they are a part of the show. Having worked with Read Zaro at TEC Productions for over 20 years, Mary Ellen is also one of the primary booking agents for "The Divas of the Decades" and various other Bay Area entertainers.
Mary Ellen has always wanted to form a tribute band, initially, considering doing a "Heart" tribute. After realizing that there were so many other women in rock that she would like to pay homage to, she decided to expand the idea and after meeting Amanda Dieck, her "Diva sister", "Divas of the Decades" was formed in April of 2010.
Mary Ellen performs in a duo regularly playing everything from Farmer's Markets, Community Events, Private Parties and weddings. Mary Ellen is married to founding Garage Band member, Thom Duell. Their two sons, Michael & Thomas are both in original bands starting to make a name for themselves in the bay area and beyond. The Duell's have been referred to as a modern day "Partridge Family"...though Mary Ellen would like to consider themselves a little "hipper" she does admit "the bus would be cool".
